| More information | The medieval town of Parthenay was allegedly created by a wave of the wand of fairy Mélusine. (Mélusine was an over-achiever, she and her wand also created ramparts at Vouvent). The town was an important stop on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela. For the resilient, a three-hour summer guided tour takes-in the drawbridge gate, citadel and several other points of interest. Parthenay has one of Europe’s largest cattle markets and a number of agreeable cafés. | |
